I became involved in conservation after law school and remained for my career. While living in the US (mostly in Washington DC) I primarily worked overseas (country count just under 100), most recently on projects in Africa. However, I moved to Chicago in 2001 with the MacArthur Foundation and with my "kids" here I've semi-retired this Jan (more semi than retired at the moment). But with friends and family in California I expect to return periodically (e.g. every winter).
late 2020 update: Sarah and I have been riding out the pandemic in our place in Sedona AZ. When this eventually passes, as all things must, the plan is to sell my downtown Chicago condo and rent a small pied au terre out near my kids/grandkids in the suburbs. Sedona, with all its wonderful hiking, will then become my primary residence. As of 2021 this has now occurred and I divide my time between Sedona and a pied au terre in Wheaton Il near my kids/grandkids.
While a bit of an odd duck, "man tan" Bander was so inspiring I skipped school to work on papers for his class (geek).
Over at Jakes helping Charlie "banana legs" Haid cram for Miss Turner's Far Eastern History test so we didn't lose our center.
Battles with with the administration over wearing our shirtails out (real rebels ahead of our time).
Things better remembered than repeated.
